Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is a disease that many kids have. When you have this disease you have problems keeping your blood sugar at a healthy level. You have to keep track of your blood sugar to see if it's right. If you treat it right, you will live a happier life.

Diabetics always have a diabetes kit. In that kit is glucagon. Glucagon is a hormone that releases sugar from your liver.

A lancet

Also, there is a lancet. A lancet has a little needle on it, and you prick your finger so blood gets on a little sheet of paper, and it takes into a tester that tells you what your blood sugar level is. If your blood sugar is between 80-140, that's good. If you are too low than you should have a snack with sugar, but if you are too high than you have to take insulin. Insulin is something that helps you absorb the sugar in your body. When you check your blood sugar you put the result in a book.

The best source of sugar you should take for diabetic people is carbohydrates. Candy, cake, soda, syrup, and white and brown sugar are too sugary for people with diabetes. Diabetics exercise, but before they exercise they take a snack to get their sugar up.

Some people who are famous have diabetes like Thomas Edison who invented the light bulb and many other things, and Elizabeth Taylor and Mary Tyler Moore, who are both actresses. Another person who had diabetes was the gold-medal swimmer Gary Hill, Jr.

The kids that have diabetes have a little harder life, but they still can do the same things that every other kid does.
