Taking care of your teeth is really
important. You should brush your teeth two times a
day, and not eat too much candy.
Toothaches
When all the germs in your mouth
make up acid, your teeth start to decay. That acid
eats a hole in the enamel, which is the outer layer of
your tooth, and it makes a bigger hole in the dentin,
which protects the center of a tooth. The hole gets
bigger and bigger until the tooth has a cavity that
dentist has to fill right away. If the cavity doesn't
get filled, the germs get into the pulp and infect the
nerves and blood supply of the tooth, and you get a
toothache. You can prevent this decay by brushing your
teeth. When you get a toothache, the pulp gets red and
swells up, and it doesn't have any room to get larger,
and that's why it hurts.
Bad Breath
When kids usually have bad breath
it's because the plaque and different germs are living
in their teeth and gums. Also, gums can get infected,
but they don't get an ache, they start to swell up and
bleed. If your gums bleed when you brush your teeth
that's a warning that there is an infection that might
get worse. You can prevent this by brushing your
teeth. You should have a softer toothbrush to keep
your gums better because if it's too hard it will hurt
your gums.
Brushing and
Flossing
Brushing your teeth cleans some of
the plaque, plaque is germs in your teeth, but
flossing your teeth cleans the plaque between your
teeth. Brushing and flossing your teeth are the two
best ways to prevent cavities. When you eat sweets
those germs eat all the sugar in your teeth. The best
time you should eat sweets is at dinner time so you
can brush your teeth after. The more often you eat
sweets, the more often acid will eat the enamel, and
the dentin protecting the center of the tooth. Another
thing you shouldn't eat is sticky chewy candy that
sticks to your teeth.
Flouride
Fluoride is a really good for your
teeth because it makes them stronger, harder, and
prevents cavities. In towns where kids drink water
with fluoride there are 60% fewer cavities.
Orthodontists
The dentists that are the experts
of braces are orthodontists. Orthodontists are experts
on the growth of the head, of your jaws, and your
teeth so you can have a beautiful smile. The
orthodontist is concerned with correcting your
occlusion. Occlusion means the way your jaws and teeth
fit together when you bite.
Root Canals
Endodontics means treating root
canals. Root canals means the nerves and blood vessels
in the pulp chamber and each root of the tooth. When
the pulp is infected, the endodontist removes the
diseased nerves and blood vessels, and then they clean
the blood vessels and nerves with a special tool and
medicine. If an infected root canal is not treated,
the tooth must be removed. That leaves a space, and
soon the surrounding teeth will move toward the space,
and the occlusion will go bad.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are for people who
lost so many teeth that a bridge can be made, but they
still have some teeth. These artificial teeth are made
up of plastic or porcelain, and the rest is metal that
extends around some teeth. These teeth usually look
good, and you can eat with them, but your old teeth
are better. You take those teeth out when you go to
sleep, and put them in a glass of water.
Always take care of your teeth, and
brush your teeth everyday. If you have teeth problems,
treat them right and your teeth won't hurt.
