Kids and Caffeine: An Unhealthy Combo

Neuroscience for Kids: Caffeine

Did you know that a lot of the world's drinks have caffeine in them? Lots of people think caffeine isn't a drug but it really is. Caffeine is one of the most popular drugs in the world. We drink caffeine in coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, and some soda pops. The actual source of the caffeine comes from the coffee bean.

Caffeine is very bad for your body and this is what could happen when you eat or drink something with caffeine in it. If you drink or eat caffeine, you could be deprived of sleep. When you are deprived of sleep it means that you won't fall asleep as quickly as you normally do. Also, it can increase your alertness and if you drive a car, your motor skills could change. You will notice you have many more headaches and you will get dizzy and nervous every once in a while.

Even though caffeine is legal, if you have too much of it, one of these side effects could happen to you.
