Warning: In most U.S. states,
you have to be at least 21 to drink alcohol.

Did you know that alcohol is not only bad for your body but it has lots of calories that make you fat? Not one part of your body needs alcohol. Some people get a headache or they vomit if they drink alcohol.

What is Alcohol?

Alcohol can't be in a pill or a powder, it is a liquid that is a chemical. Alcohol is made by fruit juice and honey. It is made by fermentation. Fermenting changes sugars and starches into alcohol. Alcohol smell comes out of your mouth on your breath and also shows up in your urine.

How can you tell if someone is drunk?

When you drink alcohol it can make you drunk. Alcohol travels into your brain, and then your brain can't control your actions as quickly as it should. You do all these weird things since you're drunk. Your behavior is different then usual, you get dizzy, you can't drive, talk or walk. That's why places that sell alcohol say you should not drive if you have been drinking. The less a person weighs the faster the alcohol gets around your body.

Read the label

Any product with alcohol has to say how much alcohol is in it. An example could be red wine. It is 14% alcohol. The bottle can say how much alcohol is in the drink. We call this "proof". Proof is a half a percent of alcohol. Whiskey might be "80 proof," which would be 40% alcohol content.
