Site Info

This site was created by Michael Morris-Pearce with articles written by Andrew Petrenko for the sole purpose of entry into the ThinkQuest USA 2003 competition. We are team TQ0312825 and our coach is Dr. George Baldo.

The purpose of Astro Net is to spread awareness of cosmology, astronomy, and astrophysics by kindling interest in young minds by explaining advanced topics in the aforementioned fields of science. Astro Net does not verify that any one piece of information is factually correct, as we are prone to mistakes. Therefore, let it be known to the user that all information stated on Astro Net is theoretical and, like everything else, has yet to be proven.
However, the user has the permission of Astro Net to paraphrase and cite Astro Net for the sake of argument. For any serious work, however, it is recommended that a second opinion be sought in order for the user to have backing for his/her thesis. The user may try our further reading and links sections to continue learning about cosmology.

Astro Net requirements / recommendations:

    • Flash 6 Plugin

With the Flash Plugin, which can be obtained free from macromedia.com, the user can view interactive videos, including short demonstrations accompanying various articles, as well as a full-length introduction which can be found at the Astro Net Title

    • High speed internet acces

The "Wheel of Time" is turning, and it is time to catch up! We understand that not everyone may have a cable modem or dsl, or even be able to afford one, but it is becoming increasingly important to have one. Astro Net promotes the use of the internet and that means to its full capabilities. Just as the compact disc is replacing the audio cassette, the world is moving towards quicker and more quality solutions. For those reasons, Astro Net was built in HTML to allow the majority of users to access the site, and was enhanced with Flash videos to encourage others to develop content-rich web applications

What is ThinkQuest?

ThinkQuest is a global network of students, teachers, parents and technologists dedicated to exploring youth-centered learning on the Net.

ThinkQuest is an online community where young people learn, teach, mentor, discover, research and grow through ThinkQuest programs.

The ThinkQuest World encompasses young people, educators and technologists in more than 100 nations who come together as digital learners, web creators, and Net entrepreneurs.

Through ThinkQuest, young people work together in teams, use the Internet to research a topic in science, mathematics, liter ature, the social sciences or the arts, and publish their research as an educational web site for peers and classrooms aroun d the world.

ThinkQuest participants learn the 21st century skills of online collaboration, Internet research, asynchronous project manag ement and web communications. They think critically about their selected subject and organize their research into a format that educates and engages their audiences.

Teachers, parents and other interested adults support the participating young people as coaches, technology mentors, and sub ject-matter guides. They leave the hard work of defining the project, organizing the work, conducting the research and mast ering the web technologies to the participating ThinkQuest team members.

Astro Net is not intended to be the end-all source for learning about cosmology. Instead, it summarizes the major and complex topics which most people are oblivious to. Our goal is to spark interest in the minds of those who might have never even thought of pursuing an education in cosmology, let alone science. We hope that you are inspired to learn about the universe after visiting Astro Net. If we left any ambiguities, please email us, or post your concern in the forum.
