Pros on:
Yucca Mountain
Transportation of nuclear waste to Yucca Mountain site is proved to be safe and reliable. Because the truck drivers are well trained and the probability of severe accidents are extremely low. The radioactive waste transportation planning includes full-scale testing and route analysis for safety reasons. Therefore, transporting nuclear waste to Yucca Mountain is absolutely essential to the future health and safety of Nevadans.
One of the greatest reasons that one would oppose Yucca Mountain for permanent storage of nuclear waste is the vast concern for human safety. However, the civilian risk for radiation exposure is minimal for at least the first 300,000 years after the waste is stored in the repository. It will take 310,000 years after the waste is filtered into the ground water before civilians within 20 miles of Yucca Mountain reach the maximum radiation dosage.
Yucca Mountain was chosen as a site for a permanent nuclear waste repository for a great part because it is a comparatively environmentally safe place to dispose of high- end nuclear waste. Throughout the industrial age, creating energy has been rough on the environment. Burning of coal causes acid rain and the greenhouse effect. Oil spills damage water and animal life to an enormous degree. While nuclear waste is not a trivially dangerous subject, when stored properly it is less hazardous to the environment than the waste of other energy sources.
Although we (as Nevadans) couldn't find to many pros about yucca mountain here are some things that Nevadans might want to consider.
*More jobs.
*Promote Nuclear Power
*New technologies
Such stuff like that is good for Nevada. Those are the pros, so you can make your conclusions about whether or not the waste should be stored in Yucca Mountain.
