Ares

The aggressive and brutal god of War Ares was the son of Zeus and Hera. He delighted in the slaughter and the sacking of cities but was cowardly and fled to Zeus for protection when he was wounded. Everyone hated him except for his sister Eris and Aphrodite. He had three children with Aphrodite, Phobus, Deimus, and Harmonia. The translation of Phobus is phobia, or fear.

Ares was the deity of Thebes even though he was first worshipped in Thrace. The Romans called Ares Mars.
