By Trevor

George Walker Bush was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 6, 1946.  His dad is GeorgeClick here to see a large map of Texas Herbert Walker Bush and his mom is Barbara Bush.  He has two sisters named Robin and Dorothy and three brothers named Jeb, Neil, and Marvin; George was the oldest.
In 1948, the Bush family moved to Midland, Texas where his dad became an oil business man.  For two years the family stayed in motels wherever the oil job took them.  Finally they bought a house in Midland.  His sister Robin died of leukemia when George was seven.
He went to Sam Houston Elementary, San Jacinto Junior High, Kinkaid Prep School, Phillip Academy, Yale University in 1964, and a couple of other schools.  He wasn't into politics in school.  Bush joined the Texas Air National Guard.  At the time he liked to party.  Then he went to Harvard.  After Harvard he became an oilman in 1977.  Soon he got married to Laura Welch, and he stopped partying.
While his dad ran for president, he was one of his advisors. His father was president of the United States from 1989 - 1993. Then George W. decided to try to get in the Texas House of Representatives but lost.  In 1994, George W. ran for the governor of Texas.  His opponent was Ann Richards who made fun of him.   In the end he won.  He was the second Republican governor since 1960.  In 1998, he got re-elected as governor.
In 2000, he ran for president of the United States of America.  He beat John McCain in the Republican Nomination.  Then he beat Al Gore from the Democratic party by a hair and became president. SoldierIt is really unusual for both a father and his son to become president. The only other father and son to be elected president were John Adams and John Quincy Adams, who held office from 1797 to 1801 and from 1825 to 1829.
In 2001, George W. Bush sent some of the American army to track down the terrorists who had hit the Pentagon (a government building) and the World Trade Center towers.
Now President Bush is sending troops to Iraq to take Hussein out of power.
