XM Radio

Since the signal is beamed down from satellites, XM's crystal-clear programming can be heard anywhere in the continental United States. And unlike the sometimes predictable programming on regular AM and FM, XM has an almost endless variety of data.

FM Radio

Sony's DRN-XM01R package is designed to connect its Plug-and-Play XM tuner to any in-dash receiver (factory or aftermarket) with an FM radio. The tuner features a bright blue readout that displays the channel number and name, and five preset buttons. The included RF modulator allows you to listen to XM's programming through an unused FM frequency on your radio. One thing we'd like to see improved is the channel-access procedure-- our unit doesn't have "direct dial," and scrolling through 100 channels to reach the one you want can take a bit of time. We expect future models to offer a direct-dial or access option.

The supplied XM-compatible antenna (required to receive XM signal) has a magnetic base for positioning on your vehicle's roof. Install the docking station in a convenient spot, and it cradles your tuner while you're driving. When you park, pop the tuner out and take it with you. To connect the XM tuner to your home stereo, slip it into the docking station contained in the optional home kit. A wireless remote is included for tuner operation.
