   Did you know the enriching story of King Lear, the elderly, greedy ruler has been around for nearly 800 years? You see, Shakespeare adapted the story and made it into a play. Really, King Lear was a British king, and existed. Geoffrey Monmouth wrote about King Lear and his three daughters in 1137.

    Shakespeare was not the first to write King Lear. Many people like summaries to explain the play better. They tried to make a sequels to King Lear. 

    Actually, the first King Lear story was supposed to have a happy ending, but Shakespeare had very little interest in writing a loving story without tragedy.
