A Summary of A Midsummer Night's Dream
A long time ago in ancient Athens a girl named Hermia loved a poet called Lysander. They each loved each other but they could not marry. In Athens it was the law to marry who your father chooses for you or you die if you refuse. Hermia's father wanted Hermia to marry Demetrius . Demetrius loved Hermia's best friend, Helena but Demetrius now wants to marry Hermia.
Lysander tells Hermia that they will have to run away past the Athens border to his Aunt's house. They then meet sick Helena. Somewhere else in the city Peter Quince and friends come together to put on a play in the duke's honor. A man named Bottom would be the main character. They would rehearse in the forest Hermia and Lysander were going to run away through.
Before any of them were in the forest there were fairies and other creatures. There was also a mischievous one named Puck. Puck's master is Oberon, the Fairy King. When Titania left Oberon told Puck to get a flower that made people fall in love when squeezed in their eyes. Then Oberon heard Helena and Demetrius. Demetrius was telling Helena that he did not love her. Then Oberon came up with another way to use the flower, putting it in Demetrius eyes.
Oberon tells Puck to put one drop of the flower in the man's eyes whose clothes are from and made in Athens. Since Lysander is there also He mistakes Demetrius for Lysander and puts the drop of flower in Lysander's eyes. Lysander wakes up and sees Helena and falls in love with her. Helena thinks he is playing a joke on her. Meanwhile Oberon puts a drop of the flower in Titania's eyes.
Puck overhears Bottom and the others practicing for there play and thinks about having fun with them and puts the head of a donkey on Bottom's head. Bottom did not notice the difference. When his friends saw him they ran. This noise woke up Titania and saw Bottom. because of the flower she fell in love with him.
Somewhere else Puck and Oberon hear Helena and Demetrius fighting. Then Oberon tells Puck he charmed the wrong man. Then Hermia finds Lysander and Lysander tells Hermia her loves Helena. Hermia is in shock and Helena still thinks this is a joke. Hermia is going to fight Helena but Demetrius and Lysander both go to defend her. Oberon tells Puck to put some of the flower juice in Lysander's eyes. Oberon goes. and removes the charm from Titania's eyes and will make Bottom think it was a dream.
In the morning the Duke and Hermia's father go to the forest to perform wedding rituals. Hermia's father is very angry when he finds them all together but is not mad when they say they only love each other.
