One hundred years ago, the famous teddy bear was created. Its creation was the result of many events, the first of which happened right here in our home state of Mississippi! We developed " A Bear Celebration" to honor Teddy and to give you a closer look at different types of bears- some of which you have probably never thought of before!

In this website, you will learn many interesting facts about famous bears, such as Smokey Bear, a bear cub that survived a fire and Bear Bryant, a famous football coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide. You will also learn about fantasy bears like Winnie the Pooh, a children's book classic and The Berenstein Bears, a family of bears that live in a tree. And what's the difference between Yogi Bear and Yogi Berra? Read on to find out!

Our website also contains facts on realistic bears, like brown bears, black bears, and some you don't think of as often. And of course we include lots of information on the history of the teddy bear! We even have exciting facts about our great President Teddy Roosevelt, the man who refused to shoot a wounded bear while on a hunt in Mississippi in 1902, resulting in a famous cartoon and the development of a beloved classic toy.

So please read on and join us in our festivities as we celebrate the wonderful world of all things "beary" !

Bear Fact: Did you know that a polar bear's fur is not white? When a picture is taken with film sensitive to ultraviolet light, the fur appears black!!
