Madison became a city January 29, 1985. Our mayor is Mrs. Mary Hawkins-Butler. She describes Madison as, " a wonderful place!" Since Mayor Hawkins-Butler has been in office, our city has experienced "planned growth" which is planning how we are growing. Her favorite thing about Madison is , "the spirit of the people."

There are over 50 neighborhoods in Madison. Many important and exciting things are happening in Madison. Soon, we will have a Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and our first hotel. We will also be expanding our recreational park, Liberty Park. Madison has become the fastest growing city in Mississippi with new schools, new parks, new police and fire stations, and much more! There are a lot of people and groups that help Madison. Some of these are volunteers, teachers, schools, the Caboose Society, and the City of Madison Chamber of Commerce.
