Hi! My name is Claw and I'm a crawfish from Louisiana. Some folks 'round here call me a crayfish, a crawdad, and they even have the nerve to call me a mudbug. Guess what the people of Louisiana have? They hava a little ol' festival to celebrate little creatures like myself. Trust me if you ever take a visit to this festival you are jumping into a muddy good time.
Let me first begin by telling you a little bit about my kind. If you don't live in Louisiana you might ask "What is a crawfish?" Well if you have ever seen a lobster, I am very similar to it only smaller. I am an invertebrate with a hard shell that may be different colors depending on where I'm from. I'm usually only about 7.5 cm long or 3 inches. My home is a burrow that I dig about three feet deep with some water at the bottom in case it gets dry on the surface.
The folks of Chalmette, Louisiana hold my festival. Chalmette, Louisiana is in St. Bernard Parish. The town of Chalmette has a population of about 32,069.
In March of 2003 the festival will celebrate its 28th year. The festival is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Most of the money earned from the festival goes to children's hospitals, youth groups like the Boy Scouts, schools, and summer camps. With 60 rides and 40 booths you will be sure to find entertainment for the whole family. There is also great music at the festival. You know a Louisiana festival just wouldn't be right without the great taste of Cajun food. You will find great food like crawfish po-boys, crawfish on a stick, and even crawfish pizza. They even make us crawfish race each other. Well if you ever take a trip to Louisiana make sure you come see me at the Louisiana Crawfish Festival!
