Egypt is known for their Pyramids and how they built it. There are more than 110 pyramids in Egypt ranging from 33 to 450 feet high! Pharaohs built them so it could be to themselves. The Pyramids were also built so that it would protect the pharaohs from any floods, animals, robbers, and any other things that would disturb the body of the pharaoh at rest. The Pyramids were first a flat-topped mud-brick building. They called that flat-top mud-brick a Mastabas. Then later they built taller Pyramids made of sandstone blocks to hold it well for there coffins and everything they might need for the afterlife. The Pyramids were called "House of Eternity." Most of the pyramids were built in the west because the sun went down at night in the west. And also what was by them was the Nile River. Now here are some of the Pyramids that are in Egypt. | The Sphinx is built right close by the Giza Pyramids. It was built around 2580 b.c. The Sphinx Pyramid was built so it would face the east so the sunlight would hit it at a certain point when its going down. They built the Sphinx Pyramid because it symbolized strength and wisdom. The whole thing is 150 feet long, the head is 14 feet in width and 30 feet in length. The Sphinx Pyramid is worn away by the desert and back then they would do target practice on the face of the Sphinx. They think that once the face of the Sphinx Pyramid was colorful because they found paint can in the ear of the Pyramid. If you look in between the paws of Sphinx pyramid there is writing on it. That writing is a story that tells about a guy who fell asleep by the Pyramid and he was dreaming that the Pyramid was talking to him. There are still some questions on who built it and how they built it. But the turn out was great. | ||

| They don't know how they moved the blocks to form the Pyramids. They say they used ramps to carry up the blocks and every time it would go higher they would make the base bigger or else it would all fall down. The higher you went the bigger the blocks were. They're all different writings and signs inside the pyramids. That is called Hieroglyphics. They were used to keep robbers away or to trick them. They also put in trap or fake doors so the intruder would get lost or run into a trap. | ||
