Journal As I think about what my life will be like after death, I make sure to plan on having everything I need with me. I will have my amulets that are so sacred to me, I will have my scarabs to protect me and I will worship my Gods with all of my faith.

Amulets were small charms that were important to all the Egyptians. They believed it had enough power to protect them. The Pharaohs, wealthy people, and even non wealthy people would use it because they thought it would protect them from anything. They used the Amulets as jewelry. Priests would stuff Amulets in the mummy wrappings. They would stick over 100 in the mummy or other places the mummy had treasured. But some would get stolen by tomb robbers.

There was a beetle that everyone thought carried the sun to the heavens. This beetle was called the Scarab. All the people would want to use its protection for them to go into the heavens after they died. The breath of life, as so they said it, was symbolized by the ankh. The ankh looked like a stone cross with an oval top. The oval top was kind of big and the whole thing almost looked like a spoon.

The Egyptians believed that after death they would have to pass many tests while going to afterlife. There was scribes, someone who writes or records documents as a job, on the tombs and it showed them weighing a heart on a scale. They would weigh the heart against a feather and that feather was called the feather of truth. The person who handled the scale was a god and his name was Anubis. If his heart was light enough for Osiris, that meaning that they had a good life, then he would let them have eternal life.

One Ancient belief about Osiris (God of Eternal Life) and Isis his wife is told like this...Osiris was King of Egypt and was killed by his evil brother Seth. Isis the wife of Osiris found the body. Seth came back, took the body again and proceeded to cut it up into fourteen pieces. He then threw them into the Nile River. Isis retrieved all the pieces and took the form of a bird. With her wings she fanned new life back into the pieces. Osiris was resurrected and became the god of Eternal life. Another myth related to Egyptian Gods is the Journey to the sun god Re'. The Egyptians believed that everyday Re' would cross the heavens in his magic boat. In the boat are spirits of Egyptians and gods. At the beginning of the day Re appears and the souls of the dead are reborn. |
