bulletOn this page you will find various projects to choose from.  After completing the Excavating Egypt Webquest and finishing your class unit on Ancient Egypt, you will be expected to complete one of the projects below.

Egyptian Project Choices

Canopic Jars

 

 

 

bulletMake all four (4) jars representing each son of Horus:  Falcon (Intestines), Baboon (Lungs), Human (Liver) and Jackal (Stomach).  You can make these out of clay that either hardens or that you have to bake.
bulletDesign each god to make it look as real as possible (maybe using some paint to emphasize the characteristics).
bulletMake something for each jar that represents the internal organs (Example:  Intestines might look like spaghetti).  You can make the organs out of clay also.
bulletWrite a 200 word essay describing how you completed your project and describing what canopic jars are used for.

Hieroglyphic Alphabet Book

 

 

 

 

 

bulletDesign an entire book (one page per letter A = one page in this book) on the hieroglyphic alphabet for an elementary child to read.
bulletYou must have a cover page with your Name and Title.
bulletYou must draw these hieroglyphics yourself.  Don't try to copy them (it must represent your own artwork).
bulletColor each page and make them interesting.  Pretend this is for a small child to read.
bulletThe book must be hole punched and tied together (maybe in a folder or with ribbon).
bulletWrite a 200 word essay describing hieroglyphics and describing how you completed your project.
 

Rubric Questions for the Alphabet Book

 

 

 

bulletDid you include a cover page with a title and your name?
bulletDo you have one page per letter?
bulletDid you color each page with colored pencils or crayons?
bulletAre the words you used easy enough for a young child to read and understand?  (Example:  Use the word ball and draw a picture of a ball for the letter b, but all in hieroglyphics).
bulletIs the book hole punched and tied together in alphabetical order?
bulletHow much effort did you put into this project?
bulletWas the essay interesting, informative and well written?
 

 

Giza Pyramids

 

 

 

 

 

 

bulletThis project must be made inside some box to contain the sand (we don't want to get it all over the place).  You could use a small box, such as a shoe box.
bulletCreate the Pyramids of Giza (all of them including Khafre, Khufu, Menakure and the Sphinx).  These should not just be plain paper (Example:  Maybe make them with clay and cover them with sand paper).
bulletYou must have sand surrounding the pyramids to make it look more realistic (Example:  Use real sand or sand paper).
bulletThe Nile River was off to the east of the pyramids, make something to represent the river (Example:  a blue clay river could be made).
bulletWrite a 200 word essay describing how you completed your project and describing how they pyramids might have been built in Ancient Egypt.

Pharaoh's Tomb Mummy Project

 

 

 

 

 

bulletThis project must be made inside a box (maybe a shoe box or something a bit bigger).
bulletMake a mummy and place it inside a coffin and sarcophagus (maybe you could use ripped up white cloth to make a mummy, you could use an old doll to put inside the mummy cloth, you could also use a small wooden sarcophagus).
bulletDraw hieroglyphics and pictures on the walls of your tomb to represent the mummy's life).
bulletMake items to represent the treasures that your mummy will need in the afterlife (Example:  food, furniture, etc.).
bulletTip:  You might use some sort of spray paint (marble or gold) to make the items look fitting for a Pharaoh).
bulletWrite a 200 word essay describing how and why people were mummified and describing how you completed your project.
