choose from. After completing the Excavating Egypt Webquest and
finishing your class unit on Ancient Egypt, you will be expected to
complete one of the projects below. |

project you would like to complete, then let your teacher know which one
you have chosen. |

Egyptian Project Choices |

Canopic Jars


|
 | Make all four (4) jars representing each son of
Horus: Falcon (Intestines), Baboon (Lungs), Human (Liver) and Jackal
(Stomach). You can make these out of clay that either hardens or
that you have to bake. |
 | Design each god to make it look as real as
possible (maybe using some paint to emphasize the characteristics). |
 | Make something for each jar that represents the
internal organs (Example: Intestines might look like spaghetti).
You can make the organs out of clay also. |
 | Write a 200 word essay describing how you
completed your project and describing what canopic jars are used for. |

Hieroglyphic Alphabet Book
|
 | Design an entire book (one page per letter A =
one page in this book) on the hieroglyphic alphabet for an elementary
child to read. |
 | You must have a cover page with your Name and
Title. |
 | You must draw these hieroglyphics yourself.
Don't try to copy them (it must represent your own artwork). |
 | Color each page and make them interesting.
Pretend this is for a small child to read. |
 | The book must be hole punched and tied together
(maybe in a folder or with ribbon). |
 | Write a 200 word essay describing hieroglyphics
and describing how you completed your project. |

Questions for the Alphabet Book

 | Did you include a cover page with a title and
your name? |
 | Do you have one page per letter? |
 | Did you color each page with colored pencils or
crayons? |
 | Are the words you used easy enough for a young
child to read and understand? (Example: Use the word ball and
draw a picture of a ball for the letter b, but all in hieroglyphics). |

alphabetical order? |

Giza Pyramids

|
 | This project must be made inside some box to
contain the sand (we don't want to get it all over the place). You
could use a small box, such as a shoe box. |
 | Create the Pyramids of Giza (all of them
including Khafre, Khufu, Menakure and the Sphinx). These should not
just be plain paper (Example: Maybe make them with clay and cover
them with sand paper). |
 | You must have sand surrounding the pyramids to
make it look more realistic (Example: Use real sand or sand paper). |
 | The Nile River was off to the east of the
pyramids, make something to represent the river (Example: a blue
clay river could be made). |
 | Write a 200 word essay describing how you
completed your project and describing how they pyramids might have been
built in Ancient Egypt. |

Pharaoh's Tomb Mummy Project

|
 | This project must be made inside a box (maybe a
shoe box or something a bit bigger). |
 | Make a mummy and place it inside a coffin and
sarcophagus (maybe you could use ripped up white cloth to make a mummy,
you could use an old doll to put inside the mummy cloth, you could also
use a small wooden sarcophagus). |
 | Draw hieroglyphics and pictures on the walls of
your tomb to represent the mummy's life). |
 | Make items to represent the treasures that your
mummy will need in the afterlife (Example: food, furniture, etc.). |
 | Tip: You might use some sort of spray paint
(marble or gold) to make the items look fitting for a Pharaoh). |
 | Write a 200 word essay describing how and why
people were mummified and describing how you completed your project. |
