How to Create a Bird Seed Mosaic
Materials needed:
- White glue
- Photocopy of a bird {from a coloring book enlarged as necessary}
- Assorted types of bird seeds, sorted
- Toothpick
- Piece of cardboard at least 2 inches wider + longer than
photocopy of bird - Colored sand-blue, green, brown
- Spray craft sealer
Directions:
| Step 1. | Glue photocopy of bird onto cardboard, centering so that you leave the same amount of cardboard evenly around the paper. |
| Step 2. | Decide which seeds best simulate the feather pattern of the bird. |
| Step 3. | Working on a small section at a time, cover an area of the bird with glue and then arrange the seeds to look like the feathers, angle them in the directions the feathers would angle. Use larger seeds on wings and tail feathers, smaller ones on body and head. |
| Step 4. | After it is completely covered, let dry. |
| Step 5. | Using blue for the sky and either brown or green for the ground, glue and then sprinkle the sand. Do only one color at a time. Let completely dry before doing the next. |
| Step 6. | When entire paper is finished, spray with craft sealer to keep sand and seeds from coming off. |
| Step 7. | Frame as desired, covering cardboard up to picture with mat and frame. |
