The most common way the Native Americans traveled is by foot. They wore moccasins to keep their feet warm wile in the longhouse or outside in the spring and fall. They go barefoot in the summer. Snowshoes were used by the Native Americans mostly in winter. They used them so that they can walk on top of the snow without their feet sinking to deep in the snow.
Native Americans used canoes for many different reasons. Some ways that the canoes were used are for hunting, fishing, trading and traveling. Elm bark is not as fast, light or easy to use as birch bark. Only men used canoes. They climbed waterfalls with the canoes over their heads all the way to the top of the waterfall. Usually in the canoes there were baskets, clay pots, dried meat, furs, clothing, ornaments, cargoes of corn, beans and animal skins. Canoes made the Native Americans life easier.
