PYRAMIDS

Pyramids are huge ancient buildings. Tombs are kept in the pyramids. Tombs preserved mummified pharaohs. The Egyptians believed in after life. So they mummified the pharaohs to preserve their body, and put jewels, gold, and other things the Pharaohs might need in their journey to after life.

Egyptians used stone to build their pyramids. They usually used limestone or granite. They shaped the stone like a three dimensional triangle. The stone blocks could weigh up to 2.5 tons! The great pyramids at Giza’s can weigh up to 10 tons! Some times towards the top of the pyramid they coated it with gold. To shape the stone to perfection they used chisels, mallets, saws (sharp knife), and drills (a bow with cord across it with a little screw).

Occasionally when the priest designed the inside of the pyramid he might have made a maze of the paths so thieves, tomb robbers, would find it hard to rob the tomb. A pyramid contained airshafts to let people breath during a funeral, a grand gallery, an escape shaft to let people get out after they bury the pharaoh, a king’s chamber, a queen’s chamber, a relieving chamber to keep stones from crushing the king’s chamber, and an underground that is an unfinished burial.

Giza has the greatest pyramids that are up to 480 feet tall!

That is why pyramids are such famous ancient wonders.
