Gods and Goddesses

Egyptians believed in many gods and goddesses. Four of the goddesses were Hathor, Bastet, Isis, and Ma'at. They all represented something different.

 

Hathor was the the Egyptian mother goddess. Hathor was also the goddess of all the best in women. Hathor was the nurse of Horus ( the younger). Hathor either had a women's full body with a cow's head or was just a cow. Hathor wore a headdress with a solar disk in the middle surrounded by two long horns. Hathor accompanied Ra (the sun god) to be fearful to all of his enemies. Ra enjoyed his enemies being killed. Ra then thought that he should get rid of all human race. Ra got a red dye mixed with Ale. Ra spread the dye all of the land. One day Hathor had drank the dye thinking it was blood, she became so intoxicated she had forgotten her assignment she saved he human race.

The Egyptians loved cats and had a cat god, Bastet. Bastet was the goddess of joy. She protected humans from dangerous diseases. There is a legend that Bastet had accompanied Ra on an million years journey through the sky.

Isis was the daughter of Nut, the wife of Osiris, and the mother of Horus. she was the goddess of love. Osiris was killed by Set. Osiris's body was sent down the Nile River. Isis went searching for the body , she retrieved the body. That same night Set had come and stolen the body. Again Isis searching for the body she had retrieved the body and had a fiesta.

Ma'at was the goddess of truth and justice. She gave the gods breath of life. The red Plume became hieroglyph fro truth.
