Destructive Mount St. Helens
Mount St. Helens erupted May 18,1980 at 8:32 Sunday morning. An earthquake started the beginning of the blow. As it erupted, it caused a massive debris avalanche on the north side of the mountain. A mushroom shaped cloud thousands of feet tall fell over nearly 150 square miles of forest, destroying the area. That turned the bright sky into a very dark color. The eruption lasted for nine hours, but the area that was hit changed within moments. It will take a hundred years from the eruption to change back to what it was before the terrible destruction.
