Hermann Hesse

Born In: Calw, Germany

 

Hesse is both a great novelist and poet.  Hesse worked as a bookseller and antiquarian in Basel, Germany from 1895 to 1902.  It was around then that he published his first novel in 1904.  Hesse's works include Rosshalde (1914), Siddhartha (1922), Stepphenwolf (1927), and Das Glasperlenspiel (1945) or better known in English as The Glass Bead Game.  He was awarded the Noble Prize for Literature in 1946.  Hesse lived in Switzerland in 1911.
