5, 1305- Wallace is finally executed. Though he had been fighting
small battles for a while since he was defeated, nothing of great
significance occurred during this time. The reason that the English
were able to find him again is because he was betrayed by a few of
his army members. Among them was Sir John
Comyn, the same person that had led his army off of the field
during the battle at Falkirk. Some historians say that Comyn was able
to tell Edward's spies that Wallace was at an inn by turning an oatcake
over. Regardless, Wallace was taken prisoner, accused of treason and
was killed. The way in which he was executed will not be described
for obvious reasons. After this event, the war for Scotland's independence
was continued by Robert the Bruce. |
