John Balliol was the son of Devorguilla Balliol. He lived from 1249 to 1313. During the wars of William Wallace Balliol was one possible heir to the Scottish throne. He was in 1292 crowned king of Scotland, under the control of England. This would give King Edward II a way to control, but if anything bad were to happen, the blame would not go to him. After a while, John was tired of King Edwards demands and decided to proclaim war against England with the help of France. He was humiliated and imprisoned in the Tower of London. After a few years he was released to France, to spend the rest of his life.
