Korean War

Korean Memorial

The Korean War was the first war that the United Nations, which is a world organization of countries that work together, got involved in. The Korean War was first started because North Korean Communists invaded South Korea. Sixteen U.N. countries helped South Korea. Ninety percent of the supplies and military troops were from the United States. The Chinese and Russians helped the North Koreans. The Korean War was the bloodiest war in American history. On July 23, 1951, the U.N. tried making a truce with North Korea. On July 27, 1953, a truce was not agreed upon, but they signed an Armistice Agreement, which is a temporary peace agreement. Since no peace treaty was signed the U.S. still has troops in South Korea today to keep North Korea from taking over South Korea.
