God Bless America

by Irving Berlin

God bless America.
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her,
Through the night with the light from above.

From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the ocean white with foam.
God bless America! My home, sweet home,
God bless America! My home, sweet home.

Irving Berlin (1888-1989) immigrated from Siberia to America when he was 5 years old. In 1938 war was again threatening Europe (W.W.II), so Berlin wanted to write a "peace" song. he rewrote a song he started 20 years earlier, God Bless America. It has become America's unofficial national anthem.
