Bacchus made parade history when it was formed in 1968 by twelve businessmen. Bacchus is known as the most creative and copied krewe founded in the twentieth century. The krewe was the first to allow any man to ride on the float if they paid a certain price. They had the largest float ever and changed the tableau ball into a supper dance with entertainment from the king of the krewe, a celebrity. Celebrity kings have included Bob Hope, Jackie Gleason, and Charlton Heston. The supper dance takes place inside the New Orleans Convention Center. Bacchus is the first super krewe and many New Orleanians' favorite parade. The krewe owns several signature floats: King Kong, Queen Kong, Baby Kong, Bacchasaurus, Bacchagator, and Bacchawoppa.  Normally, parade-goers are not allowed to throw beads at the floats for safety purposes. However, King Kong and Queen Kong's floats are designed without any riders so the crowd can toss their beads back at them. Baby Kong and the rest of the signature floats have krewe members riding.
