In the 1300s a political party was formed called the Ottomans. This group fell in 1922. The national flag, a crescent, and star on a red background was adopted in 1923. That was the same year Anarka became the capitol. Their constitution was accepted in 1982. During the same year the President, Prime Minister, and Cabinet took office. The Grand National Assembly was first elected by the Turkish people in 1983.
