Wet Ways To Get Around
Hello! My name is Al. I am an amphibious animal. That means that I spend part of my life on land and part of my life in water. I'm here to tell you about a special kind of vehicle that can also travel on land and water. It's called the Alligator, and it is an amphibious vehicle.

The inventor of the Alligator was Donald Roebling, who was Colonel Washington Roebling's grandson. (Colonel Washington Roebling was the designer of the Brooklyn Bridge).
In 1926, 1928 and 1932, horrible hurricanes hit the Okeechobee area (an area in Southern Florida), which caused the area to have muddy and swampy grounds, floods where people drowned, and other damage to the area. John Roebling wanted to help rescue the victims, so he told his son, Donald Roebling, to think of a way to help the people. That inspired Donald, so he decided to build the Alligator to help the victims who were trapped in flooded swampy areas.
