Harry Potter: Skinny, dark-haired wizard hero with green eyes and a lightning-bolt scar on his forehead. Played by Daniel Radcliffe, 11, who played David Copperfield in a television version of the Charles Dickens's classic in which Maggie Smith (cast as Prof. McGonagall) was his aunt. He also appeared in the recent spy movie, "The Tailor of Panama."
Ronald Weasley: Harry's red- haired, freckle-faced Gryffindor pal. Played by Rupert Grint, 12, a British-born newcomer to professional acting. He sent in his picture to the English Sunday Times Funday Kids section, where it ran in a look-alike feature before he was cast.
Hermione Granger: Harry's toothy, know-it-all friend. Played by Emma Watson, 10, a British newcomer who, before Harry Potter, had only appeared in school plays.

Dumbledore: Tall, thin silver-haired Hogwart's
headmaster, may be the greatest wizard of modern times.
Played by Richard Harris, an Irish actor. He was King Arthur
in "Camelot." He recently played the dying emperor Marcus
Aurelius in "Gladiator." He died recently in London
Hospital.
Nearly Headless Nick: A ghost who wasn't quite beheaded 400 years ago. Played by John Cleese, a tall Brit known for his silliness in Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, and A Fish Called Wanda. He also played the gadget inventor "R" in the latest James Bond movies.
Draco Malfoy: Harry's mean, pointy-faced Slytherin rival. Played by Tom Felton, who was Peagreen Clock in The Borrowers and Louis in Anna and the King.
Rubeus Hagrid: The Hogwart's groundskeeper, played by Robbie Coltrane, a huge Scottish comedian. Played in Alice in Wonderland and on the hit British T.V. show, Cracker. He was also a rich mafia master in The World is Not Enough.
Molly Weasley: Played by Julie Walters, a bold, brassy British actor fit for the role of mom of all the redheads. She was honored by Queen Elizabeth in 1999, and was nominated last year for the Academy Awards for her spectacular performance in Billy Elliot.
Minerva Mcgonagall: Played by Maggie Smith, a very well-known actress who has won two Oscars. She also appeared in Gosford Park.
Severus Snape: Played by Alan Rickman, an actor who has had his share of playing villans. He played the alien doctor in Galaxy Quest, the evil Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and the terrorist leader in Die Hard.
Vernon Dursley: A great role for Richard Griffiths, who plays Harry's nasty muggle uncle. He has been cast in many notable movies.
Professor Quirrell:The pale, twitchy Hogwart's teacher is played by Ian Hart, a British actor who has played John Lennon twice - once in The Hours and Times and Backbeat.
