October 1692 - May 1693

The trials end almost as quickly as they had begun. In October, the governor of Massachusetts, William Phipps, said no more people could be put in prison for witchcraft. Of the last witches accused in January 1693, only 3 were found guilty. Governor Phipps let those three accused witches go without any punishment. Many people stopped believing the girls. The last five people accused of witchcraft were officially pardoned by the State of Massachusetts on Oct. 31, 2001.
