Oregon
Covered wagons carried thousands of settlers to Oregon. Now people go to Oregon because of the state's scenery. There are steep cliffs and sandy beaches. The Cascade Mountains rise in the west of the state. The Pacific Ocean brings rain and mild temperatures to the area.
Crater Lake, in Oregon's Cascade Mountains, is nearly 2,000 feet deep. That is the deepest lake in the United States. Mills End Park is the world's smallest official park. It is about 19 inches across and 24 inches long. The Park was created on St. Patrick's Day in 1948 as a colony for leprechauns and a place for snail races.
Oregon became a state on February 14, 1859. It was the 33rd state to enter the union.
