John F. Kennedy
John F. Kennedy was one of Americas most beloved Presidents. He was the 35th President in 1961-1963. But, America lost him young. This is the sad story of John F. Kennedy's sad, but happy life...
John was one of nine Kennedy children. He was the second oldest and had Joseph Kennedy, a movie producer for a father. Rose Kennedy was his mother. They were a very active family. They liked to swim, sail, and always were busy. John loved to do different activities with his brothers and sisters.
John went to kindergarten when he was four. He enjoyed being with other children besides his siblings. He was always sick. 1919, when he was only two he caught scarlet fever. Many children died of that disease. John of course got better but had problems with his health.
John went to Harvard and enjoyed the science classes. He wrote a long paper. Later it became a book called "Why England Slept".
On December 7, 1941 Japan attacked America and got involved with World War II. He was much help to the army in the war.
In August 1943, a Japanese ship rammed the boat John was on and cut the boat in half. John rescued the men and became a hero. Johns' brother Joe died in the war.
When the war was finally over his father suggested he run for a seat in congress. He thought he had a chance.
He won the election.
For the next 14 years John served in the House and then in the Senate. He helped make laws and change education and the military. He liked helping other people with their problems. Soon enough John married Jacqueline Bouvier. She was right for John. They had two children named Caroline and John Jr.
John ran for President in 1960 and won by 120,000 votes.
John became the first President to be a Roman Catholic. He was 43 years old. John made many tough decisions while President. John was President while Martin Luther King tried to win rights for blacks.
America was worried that the Soviet Union would beat them to the moon, so John sent a rocket up to space and landed on the moon in 1969.
On November 22, 1963 John traveled to Dallas Texas. Jackie was with him. As they rode in the car through the city, Lee Harvey Oswald shot him. Within an hour America had lost him. We still aren't sure if he was the only one to be involved in the assassination. We will always remember the amazing man named John F. Kennedy.
