George
Washington
George Washington was born in Westmoreland, Virginia. He was born on
February 11, 1732. But, seven years
later they rearranged the calendar and his birthday was moved to the 22nd.
He had a father, Augustine, and a brother, Lawrence.
His father grew tobacco. They were not rich, but not poor.
They were all happy until Augustine passed away.
George only had loved his brother, who he admired very much.
Soon enough he had nothing left when his brother Lawrence died of
tuberculosis.
When George was 16 he became a land surveyor. It wasn’t easy. He had to learn how to survive in the wilderness. But, George was paid well. Soon he owned lots of land and was happy.
Next,
he became an officer in the British military.
He fought the French and Indian war.
This was a war between France and England.
They both wanted the Ohio River Valley.
Soon he moved to Mount
Vernon. When he got there he
married Martha Custis. She already
had two children, John and Martha. Years
later they raised two grandchildren.
George didn’t mind slavery, but he minded the selling and trading of slaves. He vowed they would be free after Martha’s death. Sadly they weren't.
Years after George started his happy life with Martha, he died at his home in Mount Vernon. He made a difference in America and forever will America remember their first President. Father of our democracy.
