Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincolns hard life started on February 12, 1809.  When he was little his family moved from Kentucky to Indiana.  He had a father Thomas and a mother Nancy.  He also had a big sister Sarah.  When Abraham was nine his mother died.  His sister tried to take her place but it wasn't the same.

Later on his father finally decided to marry Sarah Johnson, a widow with three children and a loving heart.  Abraham loved her so much he called her his angel mother.  Everyone else called her Sally.

Abraham and Sarah went to a school called "blab" school.  The students  studied aloud at the same time.  He loved school and loved reading.  He borrowed books and read all he could.

When he was 21 he moved to Illinois and met Mary Todd.  He loved her. So, in 1842 they got married.  Soon enough their son Robert was born and they continued their wonderful life together.

In 1846 Abraham was elected to the United States House of representatives.  He was off to Washington, DC.

Lincoln hated slavery more than anything in the world.  He hoped it would stop badly.  After two years of politics, he was ready to go home and be a lawyer again.

In 1860 Lincoln was elected the 16th President!  Soon the Civil war began and trouble was abound.

In 1862 his son Willie died.  Abraham didn't think he could stand it.  Left was Mary, Abe, Tad, and Robert.  If he couldn't have Willie, he wanted one nation again.  That couldn't happen with slavery, though.  On January 1, 1863 he signed the Emancipation Proclamation that said slaves were free forever!

On April 14, 1865 Lincoln and Mary went to Ford Theater to watch a show and sit with friends.  A guard watched them carefully.  The guard got tired and saw that they were fine and left to take a break.  An evil man called John Wilkes Booth entered the box.  A gun shot fired.  Booth jumped from he box and down to the stage.  He broke his leg.  But he got away.  Later he was killed in a barn in Virginia.  Soldiers took Lincoln to a nearby house.  Five doctors desperately worked on him all night.  They couldn't save him.  Early on April 15 he died. He was 56 years old.

We will always remember our Abraham!
