AIDS:
Explaining the Acquired Immunodeficiency Virus
This four-letter word is a disaster for anyone who crosses its path. The acquired immunodeficiency virus, otherwise known as AIDS, is a terrible disease. The infection is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV contaminates the white blood cells and, if it escapes into a bloodstream of another person that is healthy, it might cause another infection.
AIDS was an unknown disease up to the 1980’s, but it started to mysteriously spread rapidly throughout Africa. Kids have no need to worry, though. AIDS will almost always infect grown-ups ages 20-40. Very rarely will younger people get it, unless there are severe sanitary problems, which is also uncommon. Unfortunately, there is no real way to prevent this virus, but washing your hands and staying clean are the best ways to stay HEALTHY!
