Fire Department Captain

This is probably one of the hardest careers to have.  Fire Department Captains have many responsibilities.  They have to write and revise all standard operating procedures for the department, manage and oversee the development and revision of fire control preplans, manage and oversee maintenance of Fire Department vehicles and facilities, and also manage and oversee work control for the entire department.

For this job you need to develop personal skills such as:  the ability to work with and manage people, the ability to solve problems and provide prompt, top-quality service to costumers of the Fire Department, staying physically fit, the ability to work with computers, the ability to stay calm and respond to emergencies.

The education needed for this career is a Bachelors of Science in Biology.  Even though being a Fire Department Captain  is a very hard job, it also includes many good things.  As Fire Department Captain, Rob Still, said '' I really enjoy the tremendous amount of variety I have in my job.  My job has many different types of responsibilities- most of it office work- but it is never boring.  I may be working on procedures or preplans one day, and the next day working on fire extinguishers or many miscellaneous problems that come up.  I also work with a wonderful group of people and we have a really good working relationship''.

Fire Department Captains are very well paid. The salary range goes from $ 26,064 and up to more than $80,000.
