In
the summer of 1853, there was a man named George Crum. He was a chef at
Moon Lake Lodge, an elegant resort in Saratoga Springs, New York. It was
famous for its French fries, brought to America by Thomas Jefferson. One
night, a dinner guest didn't like chef Crum's French fries, said they were
too thick for his liking. So, Crum cut a thinner batch and fried them.
The dinner guest, once again, complained that they were too thick.
Annoyed, Crum thought he could irritate the guest by making French fries
too thin and crisp that you couldn't use your fork! His plan backfired!
The Guest, it turns out, loved it so much that everyone else wanted some
too! Pretty soon, it was the house specialty. After a while, they were
bagged and sold in store everywhere! Then, everyone took the idea and added
flavors and etc.! So, that's the history on chips! |
