They make the most around the 4 holidays, Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas. The idea for candy came from a cave man who ate honey out of bee hives. In Europe during the middle ages, the sugar was very high so the wealthy families only got sugar. When England had control of the thirteen colonies, boiled sugar candies were very popular.
