Chicago Fire

The Chicago fire was truly a deadly fire. The Origins of the fire are unknown. It started on October 8,1871 Before that Chicago had an average of two fires a day. 20 in the proceeding week. By 3:00 A.M. the fire had spread over half of the city. They finally experienced rain on tuesday morning. By thursday they were still dragging out people who were trapped in their houses. It took very long to reconstruct such a large city .

The bright side of this disaster was that the city began a great rebuilding program. The size of the city doubled and inspired many architects to create a new style of architecture--skyscrapers.
