Realistic Fiction

Realistic is derived from actual circumstances, with realistic settings and characters who face problems and possibilities that are within the range of what is possible in real life. Also, the events portrayed in realistic fiction raise moral questions that a reader might face in real life. Characters in realistic fiction usually have certain characteristics: they resemble real people, live in a place that could be real, participate in a probable series of events, presented with a dilemma that is of interest of children and discover a realistic solution. Examples are:

  • Pollyanna
  • Make Way for Ducklings
  • The Box Car Children
