Long-eared owl
The long-eared owl has a length of 13"-16". It has a wingspan of 36"-43".
The long-eared owl normally lives near lakes or streams. It feeds mainly
upon rodents but does have widely varied diet. long-eared owls fly low
along the ground listening for their prey.
The
long-eared owl will ferociously defend their nest against intruders. It
prefers to use a couple of acts to draw its enemies away. One way is the
broken wing routine the other is a more complex. The owl acts as though
it has a prey to heavy to fly off with. Once the predator has moved away
enough from the nest the owl flies back to the nest.
