Orcas

"The Wolves of the Sea."

Scientific name: Orcinus Orca

DESCRIPTION

The orca is mostly black with what is called a grey "saddle" behind its dorsal fin. It has white along the stomach and a distinct white patch behind the eye. The white on the stomach extends from the bottom jaw all the way down to the fluke (the tail). The white also comes up along the flanks. The shape is basically the same as the saddle only going in the opposite direction of the grey "saddle" (the white is going towards the fluke). Its build is small, stocky, and very powerful. This build enables the orca to swim swiftly through the water, making it a predator to be wary of. The male orca has a dorsal fin that can be up to 1.8 meters tall while the females' dorsal fin is about the same size and shape as a bottle nosed dolphins.
