Through these and other actions,
Roosevelt thought that he should create what he called the Square Deal.
He did not think that Americans should be given special privileges because
they were rich of because they were poor. He had adopted a moral approach
social problems. He said in a speech in New York, on September 7, 1903,
"We must treat each man on his worth and merits as a man. We must
see that each is given a square deal, because he is entitled to no more
and should receive no less."
