Here are some facts about airport security before 9/11. You only had to show ID when you were checking in. Only two questions were asked: Did you pack your own bags? Have your bags been seen outside your control? You could bring sharp objects on the plane such as, pen knives, box cutters, and sharp scissors. You rarely had to put your shoes through a metal detector. All you had to do was arrive minutes before the flight and you wouldn't have to rush to get on. Family or friends could accompany you to the gate and say good- bye.


The crew had had the option of showing their employee ID to go around security checkpoints. The crew went directly aboard the planes. The curtains always remained closed between the classes. The crew was under no circumstances, allowed to carry guns. Passengers were allowed to use the bathroom near the cockpit.


Airlines allowed sharp objects like kitchen knives for the attendants to use when cutting food. They also served hot meals for cross-country flights. Some planes had weak cockpit doors that broke easily. They also didn't scan all of the luggage. The airlines had control over private security screenings.
