Emerald is one of the four precious gemstones. Emeralds are found in Columbia, Brazil, Africa, India, Pakistan, Russia, and Egypt. Natural healers use emeralds. Many legends surround a tablet carved from a giant emerald. In Revelations, emerald is said to compose the throne of God. In ancient Rome the emperor Nero watched sports events through the eyes of green gems hoping to rest his eyes. A mistaken medieval belief was that an emerald could melt a snake’s eyes.
Emerald is a rich green gemstone that is a variety of the mineral beryl. An emerald with a blue tint is more valuable than a yellow tint. Emeralds are harder than quartz, but not as hard as sapphire. Most emerald crystals contain minute fractures and various inclusions. Ancient emerald mines in Egypt’s Zabara Mountains, which is on the coast of the Red Sea. In 1830 Emeralds were discovered in the Ural Mountains near Ehaerinburg.
The value of an Emerald lies in its color and it’s freedom from flaws. Perfect emeralds are very rare and therefore may be more expensive than diamonds. I think that Emeralds are beautiful and very valuable. I could not imagine finding such a valuable stone.
