PARROTFISH

Did you ever wonder about how the parrotfish got its name? Or what they eat? Do you wonder if the parrotfish is used for food or arts? You will learn about all of that and much, much more if you go on this page.

Have you ever seen a parrotfish? Parrotfish are not related to the bird parrot, they just got their name because of their beak. One type of parrotfish is the Princess Parrotfish. This parrotfish is very beautiful because of its colorful scales. Another type is the Redband Parrotfish. This parrotfish too is very colorful. Most parrotfish grow over 12 inches in captivity and 60 inches in the wild.

Parrotfish live in mostly coral, but do you know where it goes at night? If you want to know, keep on reading. Well, what they do is they put themselves in a bubble. Parrotfish are found in Australia in the Great Barrier Reef near the equator, in Hawaii, the Bahamas, and in mostly anywhere near the equator or in warm salt waters. Don’t forget they live in coral reefs in all these places.

Did you know that parrotfish switch from male to female? Also as you read you will learn about how it is used for needs and things that people use them for. Read on to find out more. Some parrotfish are eaten, but one kind is eaten RAW! Personally, I think this is icky, but some people eat it. Parrotfish live in coral reefs, but they also eat the coral polyps. So its like they’re eating their home. Parrotfish’s scales are also used in basket arts. Their scales are thick enough to stop a heavy spear.

I have not seen parrotfish in real life, but they are my favorite fish. One thing I mentioned earlier in the habitat paragraph is that parrotfish put themselves in bubbles at night, I learned that myself. Also I found out that parrotfish eat coral polyps. They also live in it. I have seen movies about parrotfish. They are a wonderful kind of fish.
