Description- Brachiosaurus

The Brachiosaurus’ nickname is “great arms” because of its unusually long front arms.  Brachiosaurus was the tallest of all the dinosaurs.  He was approximately 50 feet tall, 70 feet head to tall and weighed about 33 – 88 tons.

The Brachiosaurus was clumsy, slow moving therefore it couldn’t run from an enemy.  He didn’t have much of a mind; his brain was only a few ounces!  They had long necks supporting their tiny heads.  Brachiosaurus had nostrils on top of its head giving it a good sense of smell.  He had a short, thick whip like tail.  Brachiosaurus also had claws on his large feet.  He had 26 teeth on the bottom of his mouth and 26 teeth on the top.

Brachiosaurus was a herbivore.  He ate a lot – several hundred pounds a day!  The Brachiosaurus swallowed its food whole (without chewing).  He digested in his gut.  He was cold blooded and lived up to 100 years.

How it Lives – Brachiosaurus

The Brachiosaurus was a peaceful creature that lived in herds. When food supplies ran low, the Brachiosaurus moved to a new location.  When “migrating”, sometimes they would have to leave the injured and sick behind because they would slow them down.

Brachiosaurus’ skeleton was found in Colorado in 1900.  It is estimated that Brachiosaurus lived 145 – 156 million years ago flourishing in the late Jurassic Period in the Mesozoic Era (Age of the Reptiles) same time as the Allosaurus.
