France is about 211,000 square miles. It is the largest country in Western Europe. There are three mountain ranges the Alps in the southeast, the Jura Mountains in the east and the Pyrenees which border Spain. There are many different types of landforms in France. There are vast areas of marshland and forest areas with fertile plains. France grows and exports grain, fruit and vegetables, dairy, produce and wine.
The first people who inhabited France were the Gauls. The Romans invaded in 51 B.C. and occupied France. They brought many of the crops and culture from Italy. France and Italy are still very closely connected in their food and culture.
There are many different regions of France. These regions are known for different types of produce and farming.
